PHY (0156) 662 - Optical Radiation: Sources, Detection, and Noise

Credits: 3

This course starts with characteristics of optical sources—lasers and light emitting diodes—followed by optical detectors, including photo-detectors, thermal detectors, photographic films, electronic imaging, array detectors, coherent detectors and heterodyne receivers—particularly emphasizing signal detection, noise, quantum efficiency, linearity, dynamic range, time response, spectral response, and bandwidth.

Prerequisite 1: PHY 264  Prerequisite 2: PHY 507
