Educational Theatre Post-Masters Certificate


Adelphi’s advanced certificate program in Educational Theatre offers a path for the theatre major that already holds a master’s degree to attain New York State teaching certification in theatre P-12. The advanced certificate in Educational Theatre consists of 15 credits in the educational theatre core. For theatre majors who have earned a master’s degree in a non-teaching area, the program will consist of 21 credits, with the addition of a 6-credit required student teaching semester. Additionally, several prerequisite courses in education will be required if lacking in the candidate’s prior course of study.

All teacher certification candidates must take and pass the New York State Teacher’s Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) required for their particular area of certification which includes the Content Specialty Test in Theatre.

Requirements for the Advanced Certificate in Educational Theatre P - 12


Prerequisites:


Foundations of Education, Human Development; Youth Literacies, Introduction to Special Education, and Health Education 610 or required SED approved workshops in Child Abuse Reporting and Violence Prevention.

Additional Requirements for Program Completion/State Certification


  • Satisfactory completion of Content Core Requirements and General Education courses, including a foreign language
  • Maintenance of 3.0 in all program coursework
  • Students in programs leading to NYS teacher certification in theatre must take and pass several required New York State Teacher Certification Examinations including the Content Specialty Test (CST) in Theatre, the edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment) in Performing Arts, the Educating All Students Test (EAS), and the Academic Literacy Skills Test (ALST).
