Asian Studies Minor


(21 Credits)

Required:


Students wishing to complete the Asian Studies minor must take a minimum of 21 credits by following one of the four program tracks.

Track A: Humanities


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 6.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 9.00
  • Social Sciences Credits: 6.00

Track B: Social Sciences


(21 Credits)

  • Languages Credits: 6.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 6.00

Track C: Languages and Social Sciences

  • Languages Credits: 12.00 *
  • Humanities Credits: 3.00

Track D: Languages and Humanities

Note:


*The language requirement can be waived at the discretion of the Director of Languages for students who demonstrate significant fluency in an Asian language. The waived credits will count toward the credit load. For example if a student can demonstrate Level IV proficiency in Chinese they will receive 12 credits that can count toward the minor. Native speakers will be prohibited from taking entry-level courses, as in all language courses offered by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

Chinese and Japanese are the languages of study offered at Adelphi University for the Asian Studies program. Courses taken in the Korean language outside of Adelphi may be able to count toward the language requirement upon approval of the director of the Asian Studies program.
