The Master of Science in nursing education prepares students as nurse educators competent to function in a variety of academic and clinical settings. As students develop in this advanced practice role, they will acquire knowledge, skills and values related to teaching and learning, instructional design, assessment and measurement strategies, and curriculum development, implementation and evaluation in nursing education. The program also incorporates contemporary practices and theories with regard to the use of simulation in nursing education and clinical teaching for future nurses. After completing the program, graduates will be able to assist in meeting the educational needs of the nursing profession and healthcare consumers; integrate scholarly processes in nursing education practice; develop, implement and evaluate innovative approaches to nursing education; and advance the professional role of the nurse educator.

Plan of Study


The Master of Science (M.S.) in nursing education is a specialty program with credit allocation as follows: 13 credits in program core courses which are the foundations for graduate nursing education and required in all master’s level nursing degree programs; 2 credits (200 hours) in clinical practicums; 23 credits in specialty course content which prepares students for advanced practice in all aspects of adults learning, teaching and education.
