The Undergraduate Psychology Major requires 41 credits to be completed in accordance with the plan of study for a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Students must successfully complete a Comprehensive Assessment Portfolio to continue in the major beyond the sophomore year or 60 credits. Transfer students will be advised on portfolio requirements on a case by case basis. During the course of their study, students must also complete the sequence of courses consistent with the General Education requirements. Every student is required to complete a minimum of 120 credits of academic work in order to be awarded a bachelor’s degree.

Comprehensive Assessment Portfolio (CAP) (0501-399)

(0 Credits, P/F grade)

Students will complete the following six CAP courses which will lead to the completion of their Comprehensive Portfolio Requirement.

  1. Writing in Psychology (PIA 103)
  2. History of Psychology (PIA 240)
  3. Psychological Research (PIA 245)
  4. One course from each of the three domains of psychology:

(1) Biological & Cognitive Sciences (select one)

Neuropsychology (PIA 250) or Biological Bases of Behavior
Psychology of Perception (PIA 272)
Cognitive Psychology (PIA 292)

(2) Social & Personality Psychology (select one)

Social Psychology (PIA 262)
Theories of Personality (PIA 284)

(3) Developmental Psychology (required)

Developmental Psychology (PIA 115)

Students must register for the CAP course (0501-399) in the semester in which the Psychology Portfolio will be completed. Students’ CAP will be reviewed by their advisors and those students who are not achieving an adequate level of competency will be offered remediation while enrolled in the CAP course. The CAP is a requirement for students wishing to continue in the major and the estimated time of completion is 60 credits.
