4+4 Guaranteed Entrance Program with SUNY Upstate

Bachelor of Arts, Science or Fine Arts degree from Adelphi University/ Doctor of Medicine (MD) from SUNY Upstate.


Adelphi University has a 4+4 Accelerated Scholars Program (ASP) with SUNY Upstate in which students study for four years at Adelphi and earn their B.S., B.A. or B.F.A. degree. The ASP is designed to facilitate the admission of Adelphi University students into SUNY Upstate. After successful completion of the fourth year at SUNY Upstate, students are eligible for the M.D. degree.

4+4 ASP Admissions Eligibility Requirements 

  • Completion of B.S., B.A. or B.F.A. degree with Adelphi and the following pre-requisite coursework at Adelphi:

       o Biology with lab: BIO 111  & BIO 112  

       o Chemistry with lab: CHE 111   & CHE 112   
       o Organic Chemistry 1 with lab: CHE 251  /CHE 253   
       o Physics with lab: PHY 111   or PHY 113   & PHY 112   or PHY 114   
       o 2 English Classes
       o Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471/CHE 473 or BIO 504 

       o Statistics: MTH 113 or MTH 114,

       o Psychology: PIA 101 

       o Sociology: SOC 100 

  • No final grade below a B in any course.
  • ASP students are expected to carry a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours each semester.
  • ASP students must maintain a high level of academic achievement (3.50 grade point cumulative average and a 3.50 grade point semester average in the sciences each semester) and make reasonable progress toward other goals (e.g., research and experiential – as approved by the appointed Adelphi ASP representative). The GPA will not be rounded to meet these minimums.
  • Complete and track 40 hours of volunteer service during the student’s undergraduate career. It is strongly recommended that these hours be completed in direct contact with patients and physicians in a healthcare setting while at Adelphi.  
  • Maintain appropriate standards of honesty and integrity.
  • The program is binding and students will forfeit their reserved spot if they then apply to another medical school.
  • The MCAT requirement for admissions into Upstate is waived for students admitted into the ASP.
  • Receive a favorable recommendation from the Adelphi Pre-Health Council.
