4+4 Pathway with the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM)

Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from Adelphi University/ Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine


Adelphi University has a 4+4 pathway with the  New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in which students’ study for four years at Adelphi and earn their B.S. or B.A. degree. The Pathway is
designed to facilitate the admission of Adelphi University students into NYITCOM. After successful completion of the fourth year at NYITCOM, students are eligible for the D.O. degree.

4+4 Pathway Admissions Eligibility Requirements 

  • Completion of B.S. or B.A. degree with Adelphi and the following pre-requisite coursework at Adelphi:

          o Biology with lab: BIO 111  & BIO 112   
          o Chemistry with lab: CHE 111  & CHE 112   
          o Organic Chemistry with lab: CHE 251 /CHE 253 ; CHE 252  /CHE 254   
          o Physics with lab: PHY 111  or PHY 113 ; PHY 112  or PHY 114   
          o 2 English Classes
          o Additionally, students should also take:

           Biochemistry with lab: CHE 471 /CHE 473  or BIO 504   (MCAT Prep), Statistics: MTH 113  or MTH 114 

              Psychology: PIA 101  (MCAT prep) and Sociology: SOC 100   (MCAT prep)

  • No final grade below a C in any course.
  • Earn an overall science grade point average of 3.5 each semester with a 3.5 cumulative GPA.
  • Take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) by June between their junior and senior year and earn a score at least equal to the mean MCAT score of the applicable NYITCOM campus first year class of the year the 
  • The student must submit a formal AACOMAS application in July/August before senior year. The supplemental application must be completed immediately following the AACOMAS application.
  • Receive a favorable recommendation from the Adelphi Pre-Health Council.
  • Interview with the NYITCOM Admissions Committee.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident at the time of application.
