The Advanced Certificate in School Health Education is a 19 credit program that prepares educators to provide preK-12 health education instruction and intervention. Upon completion of the program the candidates are eligible for New York State Health Education certification.

The program is designed for students who are coming from physical education and health-related areas who may hold a valid New York State Teacher Certification. These students may have some of the (1) pedagogical core requirements and the (2) health content requirements that are needed to be certified and to meet the prerequisite course requirements. Some students may need to take more prerequisite courses depending on their background and previous course work.

For qualified students who already have a Master’s degree in another area or are in the process of obtaining one, this program therefore offers an alternative route to eligibility for New York State Certification in Health Education without completing a separate Master’s degree in Health Education.

Prerequisite Education Courses

(12 credits, to be completed before entry into the program)

Prerequisite Health Content Courses

(11 credits required, to be approved by the program to meet the NYSED 30 credit minimum health education content requirement)

Additional Graduation Requirements - D A S A Training

Notes
