The Master of Arts in Physical Education (In-service) program prepares students to teach Pre-K to 12 physical education in schools. The program is designed for students that hold a valid initial New York State teacher certification in an area other than physical education and want to become certified in physical education.

The program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to develop, teach, and promote healthy actively lifestyles with an emphasis on social-emotional learning. Students learn to use exercise, sports, games, and dance in age-appropriate programs for Pre-K to 12.

Previous course work and experiences are evaluated with respect to their comparability with required coursework; however, the M.A. in physical education (pre-service) degree requires a minimum of 33 graduate credits. Student teaching or prerequisite core content are not included in the 33 credit minimum but are required for State certification.

Students may be able to transfer up to 6 credits of non-Adelphi graduate level courses and/or up to 9 credits of Adelphi graduate level courses to the program upon advisor’s approval, not to exceed 9 total transfer credits. Students may transfer undergraduate Physical Education Co-requisite Core Content courses that meet the program requirements.
