The Advanced Certificate in Health Education is a 19 credit program that prepares educators to provide preK-12 health education instruction and intervention. Upon completion of the program the candidates are eligible for NYS Health Education certification.

The program is designed for students who are coming from physical education and health-related areas who may hold a valid NYS Teacher Certification. These students may have some of the (1) pedagogical core requirements and the (2) health content requirements that are needed to be certified and to meet the prerequisite course requirements. Some student may need to take more prerequisite courses depending on their background and previous course work.

This program therefore offers an alternative route to eligibility for NYS Certification in Health Education without completing a separate Master’s degree in Health Education for qualified students who already have a Master’s degree or are in the process of obtaining one.
