Certification track (for students pursuing NYS PreK-12 certification)

The Physical Education program prepares teachers to develop, teach and promote fitness and wellness programs. Students learn to use exercise, sports, games and dance in age-appropriate programs for preK-12 children. The program leads to New York State Initial Certification for teaching. The plan of study includes teacher preparation and the study of teaching in the gymnasium and the classroom.

General Education


All students must satisfy the University’s General Education requirements , in addition to the requirements for the major. Students completing the B.A. degree must also satisfy the University’s foreign language requirement. There is no University requirement for a foreign language for other bachelor’s degrees such as the B.S. or B.F.A.
