The graduate level (M.A.) program in Secondary Science Education with a Bilingual Extension is an innovative pre-service teacher education program with the goal of preparing reflective practitioners to develop and implement an engaging, inquiry-oriented and evidence-based science curriculum in a bilingual classroom setting in a focused attempt to promote ELL(English Language Learners) and SIFE (Students with Interrupted Formal Education) student learning and academic achievement in educational settings. This 37-credit MA program will prepare candidates for recommendation of NYS initial/professional certificate in science education (biology, chemistry, physics or earth science) grades 7-12 areas with a bilingual extension.

Requirements for the Master of Arts (M.A.) in Science Education (7-12) with a Bilingual Extension


Additional Requirements for Program Completion/State Certification


  • B.A./B.S. in-discipline or B.A./B.S. in another discipline and 30 credits in-discipline, each course “B” or better
  • Satisfactory completion of General Education courses, including a foreign language
  • Maintenance of 3.0 GPA in all program coursework
  • All teacher certification candidates must take and pass the New York State Teacher’s Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) required for their particular area of certification which includes the Content Specialty Test in specific science content area (Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, or Physics)
