PHY (0156) 658 - Laser Cooling & Trapping

Credits: 3

This course presents theoretical and experimental foundations of laser cooling and trapping of atoms. Semi-classical and quantum treatments of Doppler and sub-Doppler laser cooling are discussed, along with optical magnetic, and hybrid traps. The course also explores applications, including optical lattices, atom optics, Bose-Einstein condensates, and Fermi degenerate gasses.

Prerequisite 1: PHY 507
