ART (0104) 292 - Photography: The Photobook and Other Narrative Forms

Credits: 3

Over the course of the semester, students will shoot a major photographic project and layout and publish a photobook.  As a class, we will discuss image editing, camera technique, and the history of the photobook and consider a variety of storytelling platforms, fro the static page to the dynamic website.

Free Note: Students must have taken one of the following classes; Introduction to Photography 0104-256, Digital Photography 0104-170 or Photography I 0104-120

Students will:

produce a portfolio of photographs that reveal their sensitivity to the photographic print and their concern for color, file management, contrast, and photographic post-production.

develop an ongoing photographic project that demonstrates their ability to conceptualize an idea and establish a consistent, visual aesthetic and style.

produce a finished photographic book that demonstrates their ability to properly expose, color balance, and interpret their photographs. It will also reveal their understanding of image software, such as Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

produce a digital photo narrative that confirms their capacity to sample and remix sound and use iMovie. This project will challenge them to consider the relationships between static and dynamic images.

maintain a “visual sketchbook” Blog that will showcase individual project development and include written responses to readings and images.  These responses will reveal their thoughts on the relationships between images, narratives, and stories.
