ASO (0613) 365 - Corrections,Courts and Communities

This course examines the evolution and history of the American Correctional Prison System. In order to comprehend today’s prison problem the course will review the past from the days of Moses and the Old Testament, to the old English Codes, to the beginning of the American prisons from the Quaker days of Ben Franklin to the 21st Century. Topics to be explored include the evolution and history of the American Prison System, law and the correctional process in the criminal justice system, Supreme Court decisions and appellate reviews, purpose of prisons, minimum and maximum security facilities, and the need for community involvement.
