PUB (0304) 563 - Global Health Issues


Credits: 3.00

Students will explore major global health issues, challenges, programs and policies. Students will analyze current global health priorities, including emerging infectious diseases, poverty, conflicts and emergencies, and health inequity.

Course Learning Goals:    Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
-    Identify the main issues, key concepts and guiding principles in global health and the relationship between health and development.
-    Describe the burden of disease and mortality worldwide in multiple dimensions and the most important examples of successful interventions.
-    Explore the most important environmental threats to health and ways to reduce the global burden of environmental health problems.
-    Discuss the meaning of human rights approach to health and the most important ethical guidelines. 
-     Examine the effects of war and complex humanitarian emergencies on health 
-    Understand what globalization is and its impact in impoverished countries
