SMP (0855) 420 - Sport Data and Analytics


Credits: 3.00

Students will participate in exercises and projects designed to help them develop and apply analytical skills that are useful in today’s contemporary sport businesses. These skills include critical thinking, mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, predictive analytics, game theory, optimization and simulation.

Course Learning Goals: Students will…

  1. Be able to describe the evolution and impact of business analytics.
  2. Be able to identify major factors that need to be analyzed and evaluated and how they contribute to the management, planning and implementation process.
  3. Be able to measure the value of customer relationship management (CRM) and fan engagement.
  4. Know how to utilize data visualization tools.
  5. Know how to make data-driven decisions.
  6. Possess interpersonal and teamwork skills required to make and execute a set of interrelated and interdependent decisions that affect the performance of the team (company) as a whole and the participants as individuals.
  7. Improve their writing and other communication skills through analysis and the presentation of case studies.
  8. Become more aware of the importance of corporate and personal ethical principles, sound values and the need for socially responsible corporate and management practices.
