EAS (0112) 412 - Marine Science


Credits: 4.00

Students will explore the fundamental concepts of marine science through introductions to chemical oceanography, marine geology, physical oceanography, ocean circulation, food webs, nutrient cycling, plankton, and marine nekton. These concepts are taught through both lecture and laboratory work.

Course Learning Goals: Students will demonstrate knowledge on the fundamentals of Marine Science through written exams.

·         Students will be able to design experiments that are scientifically grounded.

·         Students will be familiar with common experimental errors and how to avoid them during their design process.

·         Students will understand the circular nature of cause and effect in the marine environment, which shows how abiotic factors influence biota.

·         Students will be able to express their knowledge through lab write-ups and presentations.

·         Students will develop their skills by reading and discussing primary literature articles.
