PED (0852) 299 - Practicum in Inclusive Physical Activity


Credits: 2.00

Students will implement individualized programs and work one-on-one or in small groups to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to promote a healthy active lifestyle for those with unique needs and concerns. Students will gain the ability to assess and respond to context, person, and task-related factors for inclusivity.

Course Learning Goals: Upon competition of this course, students will:

1. Adapt and modify pedagogical practices to maximize participation and benefit of all individuals. 

2. Apply inclusive principles in physical activity settings, such as diversification of instruction, modifying equipment for individuals, or providing choice.

3. Demonstrate awareness and a positive attitude towards participants with differing abilities.

4. Examine the development of issues surrounding the construct of diverse populations along with current concepts and trends in inclusive physical activity and sport 

5. Analyze inclusive physical activity issues of access, accommodation, and transformation associated with person-related, task-related, and context-related factors that may limit inclusive physical activity.

6. Assess the physical activity abilities, interests, and needs of participants with differing abilities.

7. Prepare, plan, and implement a physical activity program that includes all individuals with differing abilities.

8. Identify sport and physical activity opportunities that respond to the dynamic capabilities and interests of all individuals
