MUA (0195) 106 - Fundamentals of Singing


Credits: 2.00

Students will learn fundamentals of singing, including proper posture, breathing, tone production, diction, and expressiveness in communicating lyrics and story through song. Through individual and group singing in class, students will develop the skills and confidence necessary to sing in front of an audience. 

Course Learning Goals: Students will:

-Develop a sense of vocal confidence;

-Practice singing alone and in groups;

-Learn and practice fundamentals of healthy singing technique;

-Learn and perform solo and group songs;

-Explain, visualize, and achieve healthy singing posture;

-Analyze the basics of the anatomy of singing and describe its application to their growth as singers;

-Correctly form various vowels for singing in exercises and songs;

-Understand and utilize the basics of diction for singers;

-Begin to construct and actualize ideas about storytelling in performance through song analysis applied in performance practice;

-Be ready to advance into private voice lessons or ensembles, if they choose.
