NUR (0302) 826 - Evolving Issues in Higher Education


Credits: 3.00

Students will explore multiple facets of higher education as they prepare for the faculty role. Students will study the historical development of colleges/universities in the U.S. and will investigate issues related to structure and governance, philosophy, leadership, academic freedom, scholarship, curriculum and teaching. 

Course Learning Goals: 1. Analyze the effects of a specific change in higher education.

 

2. Explore the evolutionary development of higher education and implications for the future.

 

3. Critique the organizational structure and culture of past, current, and future models of higher education, including nursing education models.

 

 

4.  Analyze issues in higher education such as: finance, personnel, governance, curriculum, multi-culturalism, administration, scholarship, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

5. Critically reflect upon core philosophical values that are integral to the process of higher education.

 

6. Defend how one philosophical value is related to both higher education and nursing care environments, as well as society.
