LAN (0139) 401 - Language Internship Capstone Experience

Credits: 3.00

Through an internship with a local organization or firm, students will consolidate their language-learning experience with practical experience in a field related to their course of study. Routine internship activities must include some component that takes place in one of the languages they have studied as part of the major.

Prerequisite 1: LAN 101
Free Note: Students should have completed 15 credits of their chosen language (Spanish, French, Italian) at the 200 level or above before/concurrent with this course.

Course Learning Goals: In order to assess students’ progress on the above-named objectives, faculty will be evaluating them in a number of areas.  First, half of their grade will come from successful completion of the goals outlined in the internship agreement. This agreement will differ from student-to-student based on their language choices and, naturally, based on the field in which they will be interning.  Second, they will be given written assignments. The first is an analytical paper and the second is a weekly journal. Finally, they will participate in weekly meetings with their faculty coordinator. Each of these methods is intended to assess, in a different way, how the students have met the course objectives.
