PUB (0304) 776 - Hospital And Health Care Finance


Credits: 3.00

Students will examine the most vital accounting and financial management principles and concepts relevant to health services organizations.  Subjects include estimating costs, pricing decisions and profit analysis, planning and budgeting, resource management, business financing, capital investments, cash flow, risk and variance analysis, and reporting assets and profits.

Course Learning Goals: 1. Explain basic principles and tools of budget and resource management 

2. Analyze primary financial reports of both profit and nonprofit institutions and identify key information necessary to assess the financial conditions of the organization;

3. Calculate standard financial analyses using standard financial institutional information;

4. Appraise sources of institutional revenue and outside funding, and evaluate the stability and future availability of each.

5. Assess an institution’s use of financial and budgetary control, and prescribe actions and systems for the enhancement of such control;

6. Evaluate an institution’s system of cash management, and recommend additional methods of cash management control;

7. Perform effectively on inter-professional teams 

8. Communicate audience-appropriate public health content, both in writing and through oral presentation.
