This course is a study of counterpoint, from the modal counterpoint of the Late Renaissance, through tonal counterpoint of the Baroque Period, and imitative polyphony in the 19th and 20th centuries. Students will write their own counterpoint following exemplary and representative models, both modal and tonal.
