ETH (0893) 518 - Exploring the Arts: Creative Speech and Storytelling

Students will explore the musicality and sensory richness of language through oral and written explorations of poetry and storytelling. They will discover the expressive capacities of their voices, gain a newfound feeling of confidence and ease while speaking, and discover imaginative ways to enrich their classroom experiences.

Course Learning Goals: Students will:

Explore the musicality and sensory richness of human language through oral interpretation of poetry

Examine the manner and placement of English consonants and how they manifest their qualities in selected lines of poetry.

Experience and Critique a range of spoken word artists and storytellers

Consider the centrality of story in teaching and learning

Create short story explorations that make use of language in inventive, imaginative and personally meaningful ways

Offer meaningful and supportive feedback to their peers

Reflect on their own creative growth as speakers and storytellers
