ENG (0122) 415 - Advanced Creative Nonfiction


Credits: 3.00

In this advanced writing workshop, students will master the art of creative nonfiction. Students will write and revise original literary essays, analyze and draw examples from contemporary published essays, critique each other’s drafts, and develop an appreciation for the history, challenges, and myriad possibilities of the literary essay form.

Prerequisite 1: ENG 109  and ENG 315

Students will practice the creative writing process by:

● creating and workshopping drafts of literary essays

● improving creative work through multiple drafts in a sequence of revisions in response to peer review

● writing complex prose that employs strong grammar, diction, and syntax; appropriate formatting; and careful proofreading

 

Students will hone critical writing skills by:

● practicing the critical method of close reading 

● describing, analyzing, and synthesizing literary terms in service of an argument about a literary text
