MPS (0502) 641 - Current Issues in Behavioral Health


Credits: 3.00

Students will examine the complex interaction of psychological, social, spiritual and biological factors in promoting healthy lifestyles, improving well-being, preventing disease, managing illness and recovery, and preventing premature death.

Therefore, by the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Articulate the relevance of research and theory in behavioral health and identify the costs and benefits of empirical and theoretical models of health.

2. Critically evaluate how biological, psychological, social and spiritual factors influence health, as well as the complex interplay of culture, age, race, gender, and socio-economic status

3. Identify basic concepts and terminology of behavioral health and critically evaluate various ethical dilemmas, as well as the role of ethics and values in health research.

4. Explain emerging issues in the field and the

5. factors that promote or challenge health on the individual, family and community level.

6. Analyze how health theories and models are used to develop interventions and how research findings can be used to inform public policy.
