Spring 2020 Update [ARCHIVED CATALOG]

MTH (0144) 501 - Foundations for Advanced Mathematics

Credits: 3.00

Students explore all the necessary advanced mathematics to prepare them for graduate work in all areas of mathematics. Students will enhance their understanding of matrix analysis, vector spaces, limits and convergence, differentiation and continuity, integration, multivariable calculus, Lagrange multipliers, and Probability Theory.

Free Note: Open only to students in the MS in Mathematics.

Students will:
●    Apply techniques from linear algebra including matrix analysis and linear transformations. This objective will be measured by Quizzes 1, 2, 3, and the mid-term examination.
●    Apply the theoretical techniques of the differential calculus using detla-epsilon and n-epsilon techniques. This objective will be measured by Quizzes 4 & 5, and the mid-term examination.
●    Apply the theoretical techniques of integration, sequences and series. This objective will be measured by Quiz 6, and the Final Examination.
●    Apply the theoretical techniques of multivariable calculus. This objective will be measured by Quizzes 7, 8, 9, and the Final Examination.
●    Apply the theoretical techniques of probability theory. This objective will be measured by Quizzes 10, 11, 12, and the Final Examination.
