MTH (0144) 695 - Graduate Capstone in the Mathematical Sciences


Credits: 3.00

Students will complete an individual research paper or a project in mathematics. Students will have the opportunity to integrate the knowledge that they have gained from across the curriculum. Students will learn how mathematics evolves as a discipline, how to read and find relevant research papers, identify problems, research, and learn to write up results.

Free Note: Graduating majors only.  24 completed credits in the Master’s program. Open only to students in the MS in mathematics.

Students will:
●    Independently investigate an advanced topic in mathematics. This objective will be measured by the final project. 
●                        
●    Synthesize research by writing a master’s paper, or a completing a project. This objective will be measured by the final project.     

●    Formally present their work in both oral presentations and written reports. This objective will be measured by the progress reports, by produced deliverables, and by a public presentation at the end of the term.                                
    
●    Constructively critique and discuss the work of others. This objective will be measured by the weekly feedback that students and instructor will provide to the work completed by their peers.
