SPH (0876) 681 - EEG Research in Speech Language Pathology


Credits: 3.00

Students will explore electroencephalographic (EEG) research and its application to communication sciences and disorders. Students will receive hands-on training with equipment to study linguistic/cognitive processing while bridging scientific theory to clinical practice. As part of this class, students will develop a research proposal for presentation.

At the end of this course students will 

1. identify event-related potentials specific to different linguistic and cognitive processing mechanisms.  

2. formulate research questions and corresponding hypotheses for EEG research based on the literature in the fields of cognitive neuroscience, linguistics, and communication sciences and disorders.

3. demonstrate the required skills to run a participant with a communication disorder in an EEG experiment.

4. present a research proposal for an EEG study that addresses questions regarding cognitive and/or linguistic processing in communication sciences and disorders.
